Max Payne
 Schedule & Buy Now!
(100 min) Rockstar Games' antihero Max Payne gets his own movie with this video game adaptation. Mark Wahlberg (THE DEPARTED) plays the titular cop who is still trying to get over the death of his family while investigating several murders, while Mila Kunis (FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL) costars as an assassin desperate for her own revenge.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua
 Schedule & Buy Now!
(PG) (91 Min) In Disney's unabashedly silly talking-dog movie BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA, Chloe (voiced by Drew Barrymore), the ridiculously spoiled title pet, is swept away from her comfortable 90210 existence, when the impulsive niece (Piper Perabo) of her wealthy owner (Jamie Lee Curtis) combines dog-sitting with a vacation in Mexico. When Chloe gets lost south of the border, her scrappy Chihuahua admirer, Papi (voiced by George Lopez), embarks on a mission to bring her back home. While Chloe's pint-size dog in shining armor searches for his posh crush, she must contend with the rough-and-tumble side of life, learning a few important lessons along the way. Directed by Raja Gosnell, who is no stranger to dog-themed live-action/CGI flicks (see SCOOBY-DOO), CHIHUAHUA is an amusing diversion that is custom-made for canine lovers. Barrymore and Lopez are pitch-perfect in their vocal performances, and they are ably assisted by a bevy of Latino talent, including Andy Garcia, Edward James Olmos, and Cheech Marin.

About the Film:
In this family film, NANCY DREW's Emma Roberts leads a star-filled cast that includes Kyla Pratt, Lisa Kudrow, Kevin Dillon, and Don Cheadle. A pair of orphaned siblings (Roberts and Jake T. Austin) are forced to give up their beloved dog when they move into a foster home. But since they can't stand to live without him, they turn a closed hotel into a home for their dog--and any other strays they can find. HOTEL FOR DOGS is based on the novel by Lois Duncan.

Guests are Encouraged to bring their Well Behaved Dogs
Dogma Bakery and Boutique will be on hand to distribute doggie treats to those who bring their dogs to attend the screening. Additionally, Dogma Bakery and Boutique will have the Vicktory Dog Collection by Cyrus Mejia (adoption details to place ex-NFL Quarterback Michael Vick’s Bad Newz Kennels’ dogs into new, loving homes) will be onsite with literature and prints from the “Vicktory Dog Collection”. All movie-goers attending the advance screening will have the opportunity to rescue one of the Michael Vick dogs.

Special Event - Premiere "Sixteen Blue" 2-4:30pm
 Schedule & Buy Now!

Hello all!

I'm pleased to let everyone know Sixteen Blue will screen Saturday, January 10th @ 2 PM at the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse (Arlington, VA). For those unfamiliar with this venue, it's a traditional movie theater with table service dining in lieu of stadium seating (perfect low-key atmosphere for our movie). Come hungry, as plenty of food and drink will be available! Please respond to this email prior to January 1 with the number attending in your party so I can provide a headcount to the theater. This will be the perfect chance for the cast to see themselves on the big screen again, as well for those who weren't able to attend the premiere. Look forward to seeing everybody there, and thank you for your support.

Best, Andrew

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
 Schedule & Buy Now!
(PG) (89 min) In 2008's MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA, the endearing New York City zoo animals of the original hit movie return for another zany round of CGI adventures abroad. Leaving the island of the title by way of a ramshackle penguin-designed aircraft, the quartet of Alex the Lion (voiced by Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer), along with unlikely friends such as King Julien the Lemur (Sacha Baron Cohen), crash-land on the African savannah, setting in motion a whole new series of exploits, involving Alex's long-lost parents (Bernie Mac and Sherri Shepherd) and a stranded group of tenacious NYC human tourists. Reuniting directors Tom McGrath and Eric Darnell, as well as all the principal cast members of the first film, MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA takes full advantage of its sweeping setting, making room for beautifully expansive landscapes amidst the mammal mayhem. While the leads are in fine form, they are ably assisted by series newcomers, including the late Mac, Shepherd, and Alec Baldwin, who plays a scheming rival lion. Though various plotlines get increasingly ridiculous as the movie goes on (see the return of MADAGASCAR's aggressive Grand Central Station granny), the good-natured main characters and their silly support players (particularly lemurs and penguins) keep ESCAPE 2 AFRICA entertaining no matter how far the story strays off the wildlife reserve.

Burn After Reading
 Schedule & Buy Now!
(R) (96 min) With their overtly comedic follow-up BURN AFTER READING, the Coen Brothers return--about a third of the way--from the dark, dank recesses of the human psyche they traversed in their Oscar-winning NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. For those unfamiliar with the landscape of modern movie psychoanalysis, this puts the fraternal filmmakers square in the cruel, misanthropic, and farcical realm of their 1990s-era body of work, somewhere between the tragicomic crime thriller of FARGO and the disconnected noir-homage anti-storytelling of THE BIG LEBOWSKI, with 2007's NO COUNTRY retroactively adding new nihilism-tinged dimensions of smart skepticism to the proceedings. In a more linear trajectory, BURN AFTER READING also stands as the third entry, after BLOOD SIMPLE and FARGO, in what could be an unofficial Tragedy of Human Idiocy trilogy, wherein characters make the most outlandishly moronic moves to devastating consequences simply by adhering to true human behavior. Indeed, Carter Burwell's emotionally weighty score, which washes over biting scenes of explosive, anesthetizing belly laughs, is very reminiscent of his FARGO work. BURN is ostensibly structured and propelled by a spy-thriller plotline involving a classified CD lost by a disgraced CIA spook and found by two simple gym employees. But, in actuality, it's simply--amazingly--a collection of brilliant caricature studies interwoven by veracious, if Coenesque, social interactions, as epitomized by the pathos of the Frances McDormand character's precipitous quest for cosmetic surgery.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno
 Schedule & Buy Now!

(R)(101 min) As its explicit title suggests, Kevin Smith's ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO is a foul-mouthed and filthy film that probably isn't fit for the very young, the very old, or the easily offended. But for those who enjoy Smith's brand of humor, this raunchy but romantic comedy could be the perfect date movie (though perhaps not for a first date). With mountains of past-due bills piling up, Zack (Seth Rogen, KNOCKED UP) and his roommate/childhood friend Miri (Elizabeth Banks, SCRUBS) aren't sure how they're going to stay in their Pittsburgh apartment. But a chance encounter at their 10-year reunion gives them the idea to make a porn movie. When it comes time for the friends to do the deed, they realize that perhaps they're more than just friends. With all the talk of sexual positions and bodily functions, it'd be easy to say that Smith is hopping on the Judd Apatow bandwagon that has dominated the box office in the latter half of the aughts with KNOCKED UP and THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN, and ZACK AND MIRI even features a few Apatow alumni.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year
 Schedule & Buy Now!
(PG) (112 min) The first HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL movie to be released straight to the silver screen, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 finds the cast of the beloved earlier installments, all students at East High, dealing with the ups and downs of senior year. While all the characters have their own dilemmas, the central issue, as in past films, is the relationship between sweethearts Troy (Zac Efron), the captain of East High's Wildcats basketball team, and the bookish Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), who face the possibility of imminent separation when Gabriella gets a chance to attend college early. With this third outing in the wildly popular Disney series, director Kenny Ortega takes full advantage of HSM3's big-screen leap, staging musical numbers that go far beyond the scope of the movie's predecessors (see the lavish "I Want It All" by resident East High diva Sharpay, played by Ashley Tisdale). While the series regulars are in fine form and a few new characters are introduced, the film really belongs to Efron, who gets the most screen time and is clearly on a trajectory for stardom beyond HSM. Rather than hold back their budding leading man, the creators and producers of HSM3 let Efron take the spotlight, much to the movie's advantage. Designed to welcome the few viewers who might be unfamiliar with HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, SENIOR YEAR certainly offers plenty of valedictory excitement, and will leave fans giddy with delight.

Role Models
 Schedule & Buy Now!
(R) (99 min) Director David Wain (WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER) capably mixes the saucy and the sentimental in the bawdy boys-to-men comedy ROLE MODELS. Stuck-in-a-rut Danny Donahue (Paul Rudd) and womanizing man-child Wheeler (Seann William Scott) work together promoting Minotaur energy drink to high school students. But when Danny's girlfriend Beth (Elizabeth Banks) dumps him because he lacks maturity, his lashing out threatens to land him and Wheeler in jail. Their only way out is to act as mentors at Sturdy Wings, a Big Brother-esque organization run by reformed addict--and unrepentant flirt--Gayle Sweeny (Jane Lynch). There, Danny is paired with the decidedly dorky Augie (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) while Wheeler is the latest victim to take on foul-mouthed Ronnie (Bobb'e J. Thompson). After a bumpy beginning, both Danny and Wheeler connect with their kids over everything from sword-and-sorcery role playing to the chick-scoring power of the band Kiss. But when these two presumptive adults put their charges' well-being in jeopardy, they face both jail time and the loss of everyone's respect. With their own friendship on the brink of ruin, Danny and Wheeler--not to mention a little help from the magic of Kiss--must reach deep inside to prove to the world how responsible they can truly be. In the spirit of films like KNOCKED UP and THE 40-YEAR OLD VIRGIN, ROLE MODELS features a healthy dose of sharp humor and juvenile gags balanced by a feel-good message that growing up doesn't mean giving up what makes each of us special.

What is Wake up World (A Shoot the Messenger Production)?
Dear thoughtful human disgusted by: the media, politicians, corporate scumbags, and anyone else who uses their powers for evil: Join us over at Wake up World for an evening of catharsis and hilarity at the expense of the aforementioned.

Wake up World is a comedy troupe performing a satirical wrap-up of the week's news from the brain of Daily Show Co-creator Lizz Winstead. A live sketch comedy show incorporating multi-media elements, it gives us the world as seen through the filters of the fictional producers and on-air talent at "Wake Up World," the worst morning news show in America. It is an indictment - both hilarious and scathing - not only of the newsmakers, but of the news media that molds them. Shoot The Messenger will give the audience a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes decision-making at a news show, and the process that brings those decisions to the air. And of course the on-air results of the aforementioned horrific brainstorming.

But that's just half of it.

Not everyone in the media gets a flogging; those who are doing great work will be celebrated. Each week Lizz interviews a media figure who digs deep and gets it right. They'll give us the lowdown on the big stories that were buried (or ignored) by our pals over at the corporate media mill. Past guests have included Rachel Maddow, Mark Crispin Miller, Roseanne, Marie Wilson, Ted Rall, Paul Reikoff, Michael Signorile, Chuck D, David Rees, Rachel Sklar, Philip Dray, John Bowe, Todd Hanson, and more.

The members of the Wake up World ensemble come from The Daily Show, Air America Radio, National Lampoon, Upright Citizen Brigade, Second City, Huffington Post, and represent some of the best political comics, writers, actors, filmmakers, and producers working today. Each week this extraordinary team scours the media and collectively create a fresh new approach to political and social satire.

Our website (http://www.shootthemessengernyc.com) has bios of the actors and characters, a webcast of the weekly show, and other web-only features - so if you don't live in NYC, you can see this awesome show live on the intercom.
